About Akron CAN
AkronCAN is a coalition of local organizations, faith groups, and community leaders working to address social justice issues, including poverty, racial equity, and environmental justice in Akron. The network collaborates on advocacy efforts, resource distribution, and policy changes to create systemic improvements for underserved communities. Through partnerships and grassroots organizing, AkronCAN empowers residents to take an active role in shaping a more just and sustainable city.
Our Beginnings
Akron Community Action Network (Akron CAN) was born out of the Thriving Congregations initiative, a movement aimed at strengthening faith communities to better serve their neighborhoods. Recognizing the power of churches to drive meaningful change, local faith leaders and organizations came together to address pressing social issues, such as poverty, housing instability, and food insecurity. Through this collaboration, Akron CAN emerged as a network focused on uniting congregations, nonprofits, and community groups to advocate for justice and provide direct support to those in need. Rooted in the values of compassion and action, Akron CAN continues to build partnerships that empower Akron’s residents and foster sustainable community development.
